Walter Dean Shock

August 17, 1931 — March 6, 2025

Walter Dean Shock known to many as Dean, died peacefully and suddenly on March 6, 2025. His beloved wife Mary of over 72 years was by his side.

Dean was 93 years old, born August 17, 1931, in Stanley, Wisconsin to Ryland and Daisy Shock. He was the last survivor of four children (Norm, Lorraine, Dean and Jim). Dean graduated in 1949 from Stanley High School. He played high school football and then after graduation he played semiprofessional football for a team called Chippewa Marines.

It was during this time that Dean went on a blind date with Mary Nadeau of Chippewa Falls. It was love at first sight.

Soon Dean joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Mary joined him and they were married there on April 5, 1953, on Easter Sunday. Dean left soon after for Africa to serve in the Air Police for the Korean War.

Upon completion of Dean's military service, they returned to Stanley, Wisconsin. Dean worked for the family business Yellowstone Implement.

They bought a house in Stanley where they lived for over 40 years raising their five children. Kim (Jimmy) Harris, Jill (John) Hogan, Tom (Michelle) Shock, Desiree (John) Woller and Joe Shock. Dean and Mary were also blessed with eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, wonderful extended family and many friends.

Dean served 26 years on the Stanley Fire Department, a Lions Club member and served on the local school board. He loved deer hunting, fishing, telling stories and jokes.

Many summers were spent making memories at the Shock family cabin in Holcombe, WI. It later became their permanent home after Dean retired from the Yellowstone Implement. Dean and Mary spent 27 wonderful years in Florida during the winter months. Dean and Mary were faithful members of the St. Francis Catholic Church and later the Notre Dame Church, Chippewa Falls.

They resided happily for the last four years at Lake House Assisted Living in Chippewa. Dean is preceded in death by their son Joseph and son in law Jimmy.

Though Dean is no longer with us his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at a later date.

Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona is assisting the family. Online condolences may be shared at www.cremationsociety-wi.com.
