Takai I. Johnson, age 75 of Eau Claire, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Caretta Senior Living in Eau Claire. She was born in Tokyo, Japan on September 7, 1949 to the late Nisaburoh Ishihara and Tanii Toida.
Takai married Michael R. Olin in Japan in 1969 while he was in the Navy. In April of 1970, she traveled by herself from Japan to the States. They would have 2 children together, Jesse and Joshua. They would later divorce.
On December 28, 1987 she would marry Keith Johnson. They shared over 38 wonderful years together.
Takai loved her dogs, perennial flowers, quilting, traveling in their motorhome to the national parks, spending time in Florida, fishing and camping. She was proud of her Japanese heritage, Japanese dancing in Kimonos in many festivals, churches and schools. Takai enjoyed origami and was able to share her talents with Josh's students on many occasions. Takai enjoyed spending time with her many Japanese friends cooking Japanese food.
She is survived by her husband Keith; sons: Jesse (Sarah) Olin and Joshua (Jen) Olin; grandchildren: Kaz, Kylie and Aryah Olin and Evan and Olivia Strand; 2 brothers in Japan; brother-in-law Bruce Johnson; sister-in-law Julie (Gary) Christenson. She is further survived by other relatives and friends both in Japan and in the United States.
A celebration of life will be held at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 12:00 (noon) with Pastor Jeff Carlson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
