It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Steve Zehner. Steve passed away unexpectedly during the evening hours on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025, at his home.
Born on December 16th,1958 to Raymond and Marlys Zehner of Bruce, Wisconsin, Steve grew up on the banks of the Flambeau River below the Thornapple dam, with his older sister Janis and younger brother Larry. He attended Bruce Highschool where he was part of the football team and participated in power lifting. After graduating in May 1977, he continued his education in Rice Lake, Wisconsin at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical Institute where he received a diploma in Wood Technics in May 1979. When he wasn't studying, he enjoyed taking disco lessons which he would talk about with anyone who asked him about them. Once he finished school (and his disco lessons), he moved away from his country life and found himself settling down in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Steve was employed with Menards Midwest Manufacturing at the treating plant. It was here where he met the love of his life, Belinda. They were married on June 7th, 1980, and soon after, purchased their first home where they raised their two daughters, Jennifer and Samantha. Even though his family was now rooted in Eau Claire, he always made time to get back to Bruce. Steve would pack up his family almost every weekend for visits back to his childhood home. He loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and trapping where among his favorite pastimes. He instilled the love of the outdoors in his little family.
Everyone who knew Steve not only knew his love for the outdoors, but also knew he had the biggest heart. If you needed anything, Steve would be there to help, especially when it had anything to do with construction, home repair, design remodels, etc... He was a perfectionist when it came to these tasks and always followed the "measure twice cut once" rule. His motto was "If you are going to do anything, do it right the first time."
Steve is survived by his wife of 45 years, Belinda Zehner (Weggen); his daughters, Jennifer (Phil) Nitek and Samantha (Andy) Nelson; his grandson, Evan Nitek; his granddaughters Nevaeh Nitek and Jordyn Nelson; his mom Marlys Zehner; and his brother Larry (Wendy) Zehner. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his dad Raymond Zehner; his sister, Janis Zehner; paternal grandparents Byron and Ann Zehner; maternal grandparents George Gustafson and Margaret Tonning; his father-and-mother-in-law, Robert and Vivonna Weggen; and his brother-and-sister-in-law, Robert and Susan Weggen.
In accordance with Steve's wishes, no services will be held.
