Steven Wayne Squires

April 26, 1969 — April 28, 2026

Steven Wayne Squires, age 57, known affectionately as "Stevie" passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, after a courageous 20-month battle with Glioblastoma, honoring his wish to be surrounded by those he loved.

Steve spent much of his youth fishing with friends and family at Wildwood Resort in Chetek, alongside his Grandpa Larry. He cherished deer hunting and fishing with his Uncles Blaine and Greg Squires-memories that shaped his lifelong love of the outdoors.

Whether he was deer hunting or casting a line, Steve was a legendary figure on the Chetek Chain of Lakes with fishing skills envied by many. He lived for the thrill of chasing muskies on the Eau Claire River and cherished the tradition of annual walleye trips to the Alma float with 'the guys.' Steve leaves behind a legacy of adventure and a lifetime of 'big fish' stories that will be shared for years to come.

For 34 years, Steve was a dedicated employee at Midwest Manufacturing, where his strong work ethic, quick wit, and unmistakable smile earned him countless friends and the respect of everyone who worked beside him.

Known for his unfiltered sense of humor, infectious laughter, and big-hearted spirit, Steve had a way of lighting up every room he entered. Never shy to spark up a conversation making new friends wherever he went. Attending Altoona High school, he cherished the lifelong childhood friendships and touched the hearts of many with his kindness and wit.

In 1999, fate stepped in during a night out at the 400 Club, where Steve met his soulmate and the love of his life, Becky. Together, they built a beautiful, blended family. Steve was a devoted father to his son, Chandler Lorentz, and his stepdaughters, Sara (Michael) Jastrow and Emily Moyle. Steve was extremely proud of his children and a loving grandfather to Jaxon, Mila, and Goldie, who brought endless joy and laughter into his life.

Steve and Becky shared a life of adventure, from winter vacations in Florida, or weekend ATV and pontoon rides to cheering on his beloved Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Their shared dream was realized in their cabin in Chetek; it became their sanctuary-a place where, surrounded by water, family and friends, Steve found his greatest peace and fulfillment.

Steve is survived by his loving wife Becky Squires, Children, Grandchildren, Grandmother Loraine Squires who held a special place in his heart, adoring Mother Rhonda Richter, sisters, Grace, Charity and Joyell, Brother Gordon and many relatives and friends who loved him dearly. Proceeded in death by Larry Squires, Lamonte Squires, and Logan Squires.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 30th at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona with Fr. John Potaczek officiating. Visitation begins at 10:30am. A celebration of life to follow at the VFW post 305 located at 1300 Starr Ave, Eau Claire.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to St. Croix Hospice caregivers Sarah and Susie, and to their dear lifelong friend, Jenny Lange, whose unwavering support, and presence by Steve's side from the beginning until the very end meant the world to the family.

Steve's legacy lives on through the love he gave, the stories and laughter he shared, and the memories he created with all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites friends to honor Steve's memory by sharing a laugh, telling a favorite fishing story, or enjoying a day outdoors in his spirit.
