In Loving Memory of Shelvy Mae Nelson
It is with love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Shelvy Mae Nelson, age 88, who peacefully passed away on May 30, 2026.
Known affectionately as "Gigi" to her great-grandchildren, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Gigi found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved playing bingo, taking trips to the casino, browsing the aisles of Dollar Tree, and spending time with her family. In her later years, she especially enjoyed sitting by the window watching the birds visit her feeder, finding comfort and happiness in their daily visits.
Her daughter fondly remembered riding the bus with her to Red Wing for casino outings, creating memories that will be treasured forever. Her son carries special memories of returning home from work on the farm and finding her outside, barefoot in the afternoon sun, watering her flowers. Those quiet moments reflected the simple beauty of the life she cherished and the love she poured into caring for her home and family.
Throughout her life, Gigi was a hardworking woman. She worked at Lake Center Industries, waitressed at the Rainbow, and was employed at Countryside Lefse. She was known for her strong work ethic, kind heart, and appreciation for life's everyday joys.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Nelson, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage; her daughter-in-law, Roberta "Bobbie" Nelson; her parents, Harry and Gladys Melby; and her brother, Gordon Melby.
She is survived by her children, Jeannie (Kenny) Schultz, Jeffrey Nelson, and Steven (Gail) Nelson. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jesse (Brittny) Schultz, Justin (Miranda) Schultz, Andrew Olson, and Kevin Crawford; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Kenton, Karson, Hayden, Kassidy, Clara, and Grayson Schultz, and Lane and Stella Kersting, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Gigi will be remembered for her love of family, her adventurous spirit, her luck at bingo, and the happiness she found in the little things-from a trip to the casino, to an afternoon tending flowers, a game a euchre with her family, or watching the birds gather at her feeder. Her memory will live on in the stories shared, the traditions passed down, and the love she gave so freely.
The family will be having a celebration of life on GiGi's birthday, July 16th at the Schroeder shelter in Blair WI.
"Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure."
