Ronald Kappus, age 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 27, 2025, at BeeHive Memory Care in Eau Claire.
Ron was born on July 19, 1942 to the late Wilfred Kappus and Lyla (Iverson) Kappus. He grew up in Eau Claire and graduated from Memorial High School in 1960. On May 23, 1964 he married the love of his life, Shelba Schultz, at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. He and Shelba lived in their family home in Altoona for 57 years. They were blessed with 3 children and 7 grandchildren.
Ron proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966, and was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington. Following his military service, he spent many years working at Presto, where he retired after 40 years. He was known for his reliability and strong work ethic.
Ron and Shelba enjoyed traveling and camping in their motorhome and spending time at Cornell Lake at the cottage. They traveled most of the states including Hawaii, cruising to Mexico and the Caribbean. In later years they enjoyed spending some winter time at South Padre Island. He also enjoyed classic cars, going to the races, following NASCAR and the Green Bay Packers while often spending Sundays watching with his family. He took pride in keeping his lawn immaculate, enjoyed listening to his favorite music, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy a cold Pepsi.
He is survived by his children: Jeffery (Cathy) Kappus, Paul (Teresa) Kappus, and Mary (Darin) Brott; 7 grandchildren, Kaitlyn Kappus, Kyle Kappus, Karissa Kappus, Andrew Brott, Justin Brott, Rachel (TK) Krpec and Alex (Samantha) Kosier; brother, Richard Kappus, sister, Cheryl Friedrich, Patricia Kappus, and Laurie Belden; sister-in-law, Patricia Gansluckner; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ron is preceded in death by his wife, Shelba; parents; brother, Wilfred Kappus Jr.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gus and Lillian Schultz; brother-in-law Larry Gansluckner; sisters-in-law, Karen Kappus and Lynette Kappus; and nephews Steven Friedrich and John Friedrich.
A service will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, January 16 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire with Pastor Valerian Ahles officiating. A visitation will be at 11 A.M. until the time of service at the church. A luncheon will follow the service.
The family wishes to thank the staff at BeeHive Homes and St. Croix Hospice for their loving and compassionate care they provided for our dad.
