Phyllis Marie Grohn

Phyllis M. Grohn, 74, of Eau Claire, died July 20, 2026, due to complications from heart surgery.

She was born January 2, 1952, in Wausau to Ruth Marie Wolslegel (Paul) and Elmer Carl Wolslegel. She graduated from Wausau High School in 1970, and attended District One Tech, Eau Claire following high school.

Phyllis had many jobs in the food service industry. She was a cook at Chippewa County Farm in Chippewa Falls. For 22 years she was employed as a custodian at UW Eau Claire Housing and Residential Life. There she interacted with and enjoyed her many "kids" on Towers South.

She married Clifford Grohn on May 14,1988. They enjoyed 23 years together until Cliff's death in 2011. They took many trips, both domestic and abroad.

Phyllis is survived by her siblings, Janice Baerenwald (Roger), Robert Wolslegel (Carol), Lois Hilger, and sister-in-law Cindy Wolslegel. Her nieces and nephews are Dean Baerenwald (Lisa), Joy Fritz (Dan), Kelly Suda (Scott), Andrew Wolslegel, Beth Wolslegel Redmond (Mitchell), Ryan Wolslegel (Sarah), Stephen Hilger (Kaleigh), and Ellen Hilger (Joe). She is also survived by Cliff's four children and their families. Phyllis had a multitude of friends whom she valued and cherished.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother James Wolslegel.

Phyllis had a big heart and served in her church, Trinity Lutheran, and many agencies in the community. She worked with the Community Table, Learning in Retirement, and served on the retreat committee for the WELCA Northwest Synod of Wisconsin. She also coordinated The Friendship Group and Mary-Martha Circle. She volunteered with IM Church, which is a service for adults with special needs.

She loved to go on bus trips. She was an avid fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, even subscribing to the Brewer network so that she could watch the games. Phyllis enjoyed writing letters to family and friends, baking for others, and attending exercise classes.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 on August 17, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1314 E. Lexington Blvd. Eau Claire, WI 54701. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of service. Pastor Patrick Patterson will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or The Community Table, 320 Putnam St. Eau Claire, WI 54703. Burial will take place at a later date at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.
