Oliver Marvin "Double O" Olson, 80, of Eau Claire, WI, passed away on January 22, 2026 at Dove Healthcare-South.
Oliver was born in Barron, WI on April 13, 1945 to Ole and Emelia (Espeseth) Olson. Oliver graduated from Barron Senior High School in 1963 and went on to work for various companies operating and managing dairy departments. He started with Gustafson Dairy in the 70-80's, Fanetti Bros. 90-00's, Wal-Mart and most recently Menards.
Oliver married Susan L. Olson on November 11, 1974. They were married for 18 years. Together they had one daughter, Robin. Oliver was also a father to Susan's daughter, Dawn, from a previous marriage. They raised their girls in Barron, WI until 1993 when they moved to Altoona, WI. Oliver remained in Eau Claire until his death.
Oliver grew up in the northwoods on his parent's farm. He learned to hunt, fish and trap from his father Ole. Together the two of them would often be in Minong at their family cabin. Oliver contracted Polio when he was only 2 1/2 years old. He spent 3 years at Sister Kenny Institute and Gillette State Hospital in St. Paul receiving treatment. He was one of the very lucky to walk out a survivor. This was something that followed him for the rest of his life.
Despite the challenges he faced, Oliver had an infectious personality and a gift for making people smile. He could light up a room with his presence, his humor, and his unmistakable warmth. Whether it was a quick joke, a story, or simply his way of engaging with others, Oliver had a rare ability to put people at ease and make them feel welcome. It was no surprise that so many knew and loved him as "Double O."
During his adult years, he and Sue enjoyed being on a bowling league, card games with neighbors, helping his parents with the family farm, and attending the girls' sporting events. Family meant a great deal to Oliver, and his relationship with his daughter Robin was one of the great joys of his life. He was deeply proud of her and cherished their bond.
In later years, nothing brought Oliver more happiness than his granddaughter Charlize. He adored her completely and took immense joy in being her grandpa. She brought light, laughter, and a renewed sense of purpose to his life, and his love for her was evident to everyone who knew him.
Oliver is survived by daughter Robin Menard, granddaughter Charlize, stepdaughter Dawn (Gerald) Prete, their 4 children, cousin Bill Espeseth (who was like a brother to Oliver), 3 nieces, 1 nephew who all referred to him as "Uncle Rusty" along with many close friends he made throughout his life who knew him as "Double O."
Oliver is preceded in death by his parents Ole and Emelia Olson, and sister Ida Olson.
The family of Oliver Olson wishes to thank Heartland Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Oliver during his end stage.
A funeral service for Oliver will be held on Monday, February 16th, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1314 East Lexington Blvd., Eau Claire, WI at 2 P.M. with a visitation taking place one hour prior to the service. Pastor Patrick Patterson will be officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Wayside Cemetery in Barron, WI.
