Monica J. Gagnon, age 95 of Eau Claire, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Prairie Point in Altoona. She was born on March 15, 1930 in Appleton, WI to the late Edgar and Ancilla Walter.
After graduating high school, she attended UW - Madison and graduated as an X-Ray Technician. It was while she was there, she met James Gagnon. They would marry on August 2, 1952 in Eau Claire.
Monica had a strong faith and was very active in her church, Immaculate Conception Parish. She was a kind, loving, wonderful person, who had the nickname Saint Monica.
Hosting and entertaining were a passion of hers. She loved a good party, enjoyed traveling with her family, cheered on Notre Dame Football and the Green Bay Packers. She was known to play cards (bridge) and as the puzzle lady.
If she wasn't baking, she was digging in the garden, pulling on the one-armed bandit or had a fishing line in the water.
Monica is survived by her children: James (Sherri) of Eau Claire, Mary Ellen Gagnon of Poynette, WI, Paul of CA, Peter (Juanita) of Utah, Michael (Jenn) of Arizona and Patrick (Sandy) of Eau Claire; grandchildren: Kelly (Josh) Henderson of Coon Rapids, MN, Sara Gagnon (Shane) of Poynette, Katie (Tye) Stratton of Poynette, Tower (Megan) Menning of Sauk City, WI, Matthew May of CA, Matthew Gagnon of N. Dakota, Isaac Gagnon of Washington State, Rachel Gagnon and Wyatt Gagnon of CA; great-grandchildren: Lily Gagnon, Daisy Gagnon Lokin Gagnon all of Coon Rapids, Jaelyne White, Jaxon Gagnon Javon White and Jadon Gagnon all of Poynette and her sister-in-law Vonnie Walter.
Preceding her in death are her parents Edgar and Ancilla Walter, husband James, sisters Mary Dennis, Rosie Kendall and Barbara Walter, brothers George, Karl, William and John Walter, sons David and Robert Gagnon, grandson Jesse Gagnon and granddaughter Traci Gagnon.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and thank you to the team at Prairie Pointe for their love and extraordinary care for Monica. A very special thank you also goes out to the whole team at Mayo Hospice in the final care of Monica.
