Mary Ingrid Gigstad

Mary Ingrid Gigstad, age 78, of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 17, 2026.

Mary was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on February 1, 1948 to Goodman and Alice Gigstad. She graduated from Southern Door High School and went on to nursing school at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, graduating in 1970.

Mary was married to Loyd Gilbert on December, 27, 1971 and was married until his death in 1979.

She worked as a nurse at Luther Hospital, now Mayo Health Clinic for 34 years. She served with compassion and care, creating many positive relationships over the years.

She enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, spending time with her grandchildren, finding fun in the simple things life provided.

She is survived by her children Stephanie (Aaron) Walczak, Brian (Sarah) Gilbert; grandchildren Morgan Gilbert, Mason Gilbert, and Cooper Walczak; her siblings and their in-laws and many other family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sisters Glenna Gigstad, Karen Lementse, Ruthie Carroll, brothers in-law Randall Metz, James Howard and Timothy Gilbert.

To celebrate Mary's life, an open house event will be held at Fox Run Tavern on Sunday, August 30 from 11 A.M. until 3 P.M. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Sturgeon Bay. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Bob's House for Dogs in Mary's honor.
