Marilyn A. Birtzer, 94, died Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Chippewa Manor under hospice care.
She was born in Mankato, Minnesota and married Melvin Birtzer in 1951. Together they had nine children. She worked as a nursing assistant at the Eau Claire Manor and Syverson Nursing Homes. She was a hard worker who prided herself in good resident care and was described as kind, thoughtful and gentle with residents, and someone who could always be relied on.
She is survived by two sons - Jon of Meridean and Kerry (Cindy) of Eau Claire; five daughters - Rhonda Krisik of Eau Claire, Cindy Schmunk of Chetek, Julie Birtzer of Chippewa Falls, Betsy Maher (Steve) of Eau Claire and Sheila Birtzer (Dan) of Eau Claire. She was preceded in death by two daughters - Susan Phillips of Hayward and Shari Gruber of Mondovi.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Darlene Wagner, brother-in-law Don Brantner, and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sisters - Peg Ottum, Donna Welner, Fay Brantner, Bonnie Bartell, and her brother, John Wagner.
A special thank you to staff at Chippewa Manor and St.Croix Hospice for their kind, compassionate care, and to Dr. Chris Roberts (Mayo) for his years of gentle care as well. No services will be held per her request.
