Dec 22, 1928 — May 14, 2026

Margaret A. Schneider (née Biddle) passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026, surrounded by the comfort of her loved ones, with her partner, Mike McInnis and her beloved side kick Sno, her poodle.

Margaret was born on December 22, 1928, in Thorp, Wisconsin, to William and Agnes Biddle. She often shared cherished memories of her childhood-days spent hunting, trapping, and learning practical skills and hard work that would stay with her throughout her life. She became especially known for dedication to hard work.

In a time when expectations for women were more limited, Margaret carved her own path. She left home at a young age and began working at Polanaz Bowling Alley Restaurant as a waitress. It was there that she met Richard (Dick) Schneider. The two married on October 9,1946, in Stanley, Wisconsin, and together built a life centered around family and hard work.

Margaret and Richard farmed and raised five children. Margaret also worked part-time at the Hacienda Supper Club in Neillsville, WI. Alongside the demands of motherhood and farm life, Margaret developed a deep passion for horses. Richard and Margaret the farm Hideaway Stables. She excelled as a horsewoman, particularly with her Palomino American Saddlebreds. She participated in numerous horse shows and parades, always presenting herself and her horses with elegance. Margaret made many of her own beautiful costumes, and her horses were adorned with striking saddles accented with silver. She was a memorable presence in the ring-especially atop her favorite horse, LuLu Belle. Her dedication and horsemanship recognition, including earning a National Parade Horse Championship.

As the years passed, Margaret & Dick transitioned from farming and found another passion in dogs. Along with her husband and Janice, they later settled in Elk Mound, Wisconsin, where she founded Elk Creek Kennels. Specializing in Poodles and Maltese, her kennel became widely respected across the United States and even internationally. Many of her dogs went on to win championships through the American Kennel Club. She sold dogs to a lady in France and many dogs across the United States. Her bloodline of her dogs was well known and sought out. People still call to see if she has any dogs for sale.

Richard passed away in 1999 and Margaret was on her own. She kept the kennel running for many years with many good times and made the best of the hard times. She was a "get it done now" gal. Hard work was what drove her. She always had a list of things to do.

Margaret met Mike McInnis at her 75th birthday party they were inseparable ever since. Margaret and Mike shared a deep love of polka dancing and could often be found at many polka dances and festivals, local and around the country. It became something of a tradition that bands would play "Leave the Key in the Mailbox" whenever they were in attendance. They also enjoyed traveling together, creating lasting memories along the way.

Later years at home, Margaret took great pride in her gardening. Her flower beds were known to be spotless and meticulously cared for, free of weeds and full of beauty. She found peace and satisfaction in tending the earth and watching things grow. Canning and preserving the fruits of her labor were bountiful. Margaret & Mike labeled their fruits of labor the M & M kitchen.

She is survived by her children: Janice Schneider, Brian Schneider (Phyllis) and Mike Schneider (Mary) and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Schneider; a brother; a sister; and daughters Jenni Hauser (Schneider) and Joyce Lees (Schneider); and grandsons Michael Schneider, Tommy Hauser, Bobby Hauser.

Margaret will be remembered for her independence, creativity, work ethic, and the vibrant life she built through every chapter-from farm fields to show rings, from kennels to dance floors. And the best 4 leaf clover finder ever.
