Marann Gagnath

December 10, 1937 — December 4, 2025

On Thursday, December 4, 2025, heaven gained a beautiful soul just one week short of her 88th birthday. Marann Mary Gagnath was born on December 10, 1937 to Alfred and Emma Parent in Ashland, Wisconsin where she was one of 14 children.

She married Ludwig Gagnath on June 24, 1961, and together in Ashland they raised their five children. In 1994, they moved to Eau Claire to be closer to their children and grandchildren - a move Marann often said was the "best decision" she ever made. She was proud of her family and wasn't afraid to show it. A piece of her will live on in each and every one of them.

Marann will be fondly remembered as "Grandma Candy" by the many children she touched throughout the years. She always had a drawer filled with candy in both her camper and home, allowing children who visited free access to handfuls at a time. Of course, the children visited as often as they could, which she loved. That candy drawer was kept filled until the day she died.

Marann had an extremely generous heart. While in Ashland, she spent hours making Christmas ornaments and beautiful, elaborate Barbie doll clothes, which she sold at the annual church bazaar and donated the proceeds to the church. Her generosity only grew once she came to Eau Claire. From baking hundreds of homemade goodies for annual animal shelter fundraisers, to supporting area school children with bags of school supplies each fall, to making countless beautiful tied quilts - her hands were always busy in service of others. Quilts were given to friends and family as well as area churches and those in need. Many will feel the warmth of her love through those quilts for many years to come.

Marann is survived by a family that loved her very much: her children Paulette (Mike) Magur, John (Tanya) Gagnath, Tom (Vicki) Gagnath, Julie (Alvin) Hecht, son-in-law Rob Bohl; grandchildren Tony (Jessica) Magur, Kari (Sam) Koenig, Drew (Kendra) Magur, Nicholle (Nick) Hovland, Max Bohl, Alannah Bohl; 8 great-grandchildren Easton and Bristol Magur, April and Madison Koenig, Sienna and Landon Hovland and Julian and Hayden Magur; as well as two sisters and one brother.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ludwig Gagnath, her daughter Sharon Bohl, her parents and ten siblings.

Marann's legacy of love, generosity, and kindness will continue to touch lives for generations to come. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
