Larry W. Thorpe, age 79, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Bloomer, Wisconsin.
Larry was born on January 6, 1946, to Max and Ruth (Dickerson) Thorpe, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. He graduated from Big Foot High School in Walworth, Wisconsin and went on to study history at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. Larry married Shirley Lowry and with this union they had Jamie and Todd. They later divorced but remained friends. He then married Rita Dresser and with that union had Dynel and Max. They later divorced. Last, but not least, he married his wife of 42 years, Sandy (Maas) Harvey and gained a stepson, Roger.
He worked at Auto-Lite in Woodstock, Illinois for a short time and became a Teamster hauling new cars all over the United States for 34 years. While trucking, he and Sandy bought the Hideout in Sharon, Wisconsin and renamed it to the Pour House, which they owned for five years. They then moved to Vermillion, Ohio with his job where they lived until they retired. While in Ohio, when he was home, he loved and lived to be on his boat with his wife fishing Lake Erie. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. After retirement, they moved to northern Wisconsin, where he enjoyed spending time in his workshop tinkering around with his current project. He could tell a joke like no other and was always the life of the party no matter where he went. He was a Milwaukee Brewers fan and a somewhat Green Bay Packer fan just so he could tease his daughter Jamie, son-in-law Mike, and brother-in-law Dennis who are Chicago Bears fans.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Todd, brother Jim Belt, sister Elizabeth (Belt) Naber, and many others. He is survived by his wife Sandy, his daughter Jamie (Mike) Breen, granddaughter Brittany (Josh) Horvath, great-grandaughters, Emma and Adelyn, granddaughter Justine Breen and great-grandson, Carson, son Max and daughter Dynel, grandson Trenton, and stepson Roger (Shelley Smith) Harvey, granddaughter Kiley and grandsons Bryce and Brett, brother-in-law, Gibby (Barb) and Dennis (Barb) Maas, and sister-in-law, Connie Maas, nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friend Doug Baker.
