Kermyn (Kerm) Jerome Hermann passed away December 9, 2025, in Amery, Wisconsin. Kerm was born on November 4, 1939, in Albert Lea, MN (the 5th of 7 children) to Emma (Larsen) Hermann (a Lutheran Preacher's daughter) & Erich Hermann (German immigrant). The family moved to Charles City, IA during his younger years. As a young man he had a Des Moines Register paper route that won him a scholarship to The Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire for high school. After graduating from Exeter in 1958, he attended the U.S. Naval Academy graduating in 1962. During his career with the U.S. Navy, Kerm had a variety of assignments, traveling to Asia, Africa and many locations in the U.S., including work on Navy research projects. Retiring as a Lieutenant Commander in 1982, he started his second career in the private sector with organizations that worked on U.S. defense contracts. When he decided to retire for the second time, he spent a few years in Arlington, Virginia, to do the things he did not have time for when he was working. In 2018 Kerm moved to Amery, Wisconsin, living with his brother Forrest (Frosty) & sister-in-law Kay, enjoying life at the lake and small town retirement.
Kerm loved to play golf with his friends and family. He made many trips to Myrtle Beach and played Tuesday "Fogey Golf" with Frosty and friends in Amery. Kerm was the official score keeper and navigator for the "Frost Bite Open" golf outing. While in Wisconsin he enjoyed lake life, trips to nephew Lance's cabin and Lake Superior vacations. Numerous "Sunday Scramble" adventures were had with nephew Cory, loading up the family van to find sight-seeing, a museum or some interesting experience. These always culminated with a brunch, that usually included scrambled eggs.
In his final years, Kerm lived at the Golden Age Manor in Amery, where he had wonderful care while sharing his life stories and sense of humor with the staff.
Kermyn is survived by his brother Eduard "Duff" (Jan) Hermann, sister Vivikka Herman Heller, sister-in-law Kay (Forrest "Frosty") Hermann and a clan of nieces, nephews and more.
Kerm was preceded in death by his parents, Erich & Emma (Larsen), sister Marcia (Bob) Petersen, brothers Beale Hermann, Clell Hermann and Forrest Hermann.
The family is planning a celebration of life for family and friends at a later date. Per Kerm's wishes, a formal Navy burial at sea will be arranged. Memorials are preferred to your local VFW Post or to organizations that are dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's Disease.
Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona is assisting the family. Online condolences may be shared at www.cremationsociety-wi.com.
