Julie Zillmer

December 30, 1954 — July 12, 2025

Julie Evonne Zillmer (Travis) was called home July 12, 2025. She was 70 years old.

She described herself as a child of God and a work in progress. Julie was born on December 30, 1954 in Sparta, Wisconsin. She grew up in a loving home with her parents, brothers, Bruce (Moe) and Lance and her sister Corby.

Her family first lived on her grandparent's farm in a 2-bedroom trailer. She remembered swimming in the creek, playing in the woods and attending a country school.

She married Rodney Aney and they had two children, Jason Aney and Wendy (Aney) Peterson. They later divorced.

She met the love of her life, Mark Zillmer, and they were married at their home on July 4, 1987. Before her death, they celebrated 38 years of marriage.

Julie worked at Mosser Lee in the office for over 20 years.

In 2004 Julie and Mark embarked on the adventure of their lives. They sold their home and moved to Minnewaukan, North Dakota. They purchased Spirit Water Inn, a hunting and fishing resort on the western shore of Devils Lake, along with their lifetime friend, Lisa Haugen. It was long hours and hard work. The memories Julie treasured most were the dear friends they made. They enjoyed coffee breaks and visits with the regulars at the table in Odden's Grocery Store.

They returned to Wisconsin and settled in Millston.

She was a valued member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, ELC in Black River Falls, WI. She served the church and the community by participating in quilting group and baking cookies for the Mighty Table. She especially enjoyed summer church services in the campground as their dog, Natasha could come along.

Julie enjoyed walks with Natasha, scenic road trips, camping, canoeing and time spent with family and friends. She tended beautiful gardens and flowers around her home. She was famous for her fudge, peanut butter balls and sugar cookies at Christmas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Yvonne Travis, her brother Lance and sister-in-law, Donna, nephews Bobby and Cliff, and great-niece, Whitney. Her beloved dogs, Samantha and Jezebel, left this earth before her also.

She is survived by her husband, Mark; son, Jason Aney, Daughter, Wendy (Aney) Peterson and husband, Scott; step-son, Jamie Zillmer and wife Amy; sister, Corby; brother, Bruce and his wife Debbie; Brother-in-law, Bing and his wife Kathy; sister-in-law, Sharon and husband, Jerry; and her life-long friend Lisa Haugen.

What you are is God's gift to you; what you make of it is your gift to God.

Our loved ones are in heaven. Death is not the end. Love lives on!
