Judith (Judy) Ann Gallmann nee Schmechel aged 77, passed away June 20, 2026 at home under hospice care surrounded by her loving husband Ronald Gallmann, daughter, and son-in law Sarah and Gilead Chibeya. She was born October 25, 1948 in Milwaukee, WI to Marion Elizabeth Burlo and Robert Leslie Schmechel.
Ron and Judy were married in Menomonee Falls, WI on May 23, 1970. They met in 1969 through a neighbor, and continued to correspond while Ron was stationed in the Navy. After his naval service, he wasted no time proposing to Judy. He bought an engagement ring and made payments on it. Together they built a life in the Milwaukee area, and later in their retirement years moved up to Wittenberg to be closer to their daughter. Over the last 56 years, as most married couples they lived through many ups and downs. They always supported each other, always going places together. You never saw one without the other. Their love was evident- a true example of marriage.
Judy was a beautician in her early career years, and then later a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing her own clothes. She sewed her wedding dress and her bridesmaids' dresses. She was so talented that she did not need a pattern. She enjoyed gardening, canning, needle point, crocheting and knitting, staying home with her family and visiting with her many friends. She made it a point to call her best friend Karen every Friday morning, they never missed catching up over their 50+ year friendship. She took care of everything for her family, never complaining, quiet by nature but fiercely strong when needed. She never wanted to be the center of attention, always choosing the sideline. When diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November of 2021, she took one day at a time and bravely fought to the end. All the nurses loved taking care of her, sometimes calling out "I'll take Judy!" As a Jehovah's Witness, she had a bible faith that gave her the courage to endure, she had a hope for her future.
She is survived by her husband Ron of 56 years, daughter Sarah (Gilead) Chibeya, nephew Dan (Alison) Schmechel, great niece Eleanor and great nephew August.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Gary Schmechel.
The family would like to thank Dr. McKenna, Molly the Travel Nurse who always wanted to take mom as her patient and visited her in the hospital before she was discharged, Aspirus Hospital- Jody W- P.A., Nurse Christina who gave us numerous tips and the compassionate care of Le Royer Hospice Services for the care Judy received.
