Jeffrey Richard Lynch, 81, was born August 29, 1944, in Portage, Wisconsin, and passed away on March 12, 2026 at his home in Chippewa Falls with family by his side.
Jeff was born to Richard and Willo (Amend) Lynch and grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. He often shared stories of growing up in Madison, time spent on his grandparents' farm in Rio, and the memories he carried from those early years.
After graduating from Madison West High School, Jeff enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving aboard the USS Vulcan and taking part in the Navy's SEALAB project.
After his military service, he married Diane Sneen of Chippewa Falls, and together they welcomed their children, Patrick and Laura. He later married Lisa Roh of Dodgeville. Both marriages later ended in divorce.
Jeff worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad in Madison and the Northern Wisconsin Center in Chippewa Falls before retiring from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in 2005, after many years of service.
Jeff enjoyed fishing, hunting, photography, traveling, good music, and spending time outdoors. He was a devoted Wisconsin Badgers fan, loved a good Friday night fish fry, and was known for his storytelling and easygoing outlook on life. His favorite saying was simply, "It is what it is."
Jeff is survived by his son, Patrick Lynch; daughter, Laura (Dana) Alley; grandchildren Camille, Molly, Christian, Jeffrey, and Andrew; great-grandchildren Max, Connor, Elliot, Cohen, Clara, Harrison, and Beckett; sisters Kathy, Barb, Debbie, and Dianne; along with many cousins and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Willo Lynch; many aunts and uncles, and a very special grandmother he lovingly referred to as "Grandma on the Farm."
The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. Croix Hospice for the care and compassion they provided.
Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona, is assisting the family. Per Jeff's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Those who knew Jeff are encouraged to remember him by enjoying the outdoors, sharing stories, or gathering with family and friends.
