Janice Lynn Tollefson

Janice Lynn Tollefson, age 79, of Altoona, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Janice was born in Missoula, Montana to Malcolm and Lillian Thompson on September 22 1946. She graduated from Eau Claire North High School in 1964 and began working at Luther Hospital and worked there for over 40 years while also working the family farm and raising two beloved children, Todd and Nicole, whom she had with her first husband Curtis Bann. She then divorced and remarried to James Tollefson, who she was married to until his passing in 2018.

Janice was very active and was always doing something. She enjoyed many different things including playing cards, gardening and doing any sort of crafts-related activity you could think of. She really enjoyed getting together weekly for coffee with her friends and getting together with her step-sister Mary once a month for lunch. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, especially playing dominos and Farkle, memories which she cherished.

She is survived by her children, Todd and Nicole; her grandchildren Brandon Vizer, Samantha Bann and Bryson Bann; her step-sister Mary Ciske; nieces Cindy Maloney, Mary Beth Ciske; and nephews Andrew Ciske and Craig Best.

She is preceded in death by her Husband James; sisters Connie and Sandy; and niece Cherie.

Janice was a wonderful mother, grandmother, relative and friend to many, she will be dearly missed.

A memorial service to honor Janice will be held at 2 P.M. at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, August 25. Visitation will be held from 1 P.M. until time of service.
