James Max Myers

Max Myers June 4, 1940 - June 14, 2026

Max Myers, 86, passed away on June 14, 2026. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a proud grandfather, a lifelong sports fan, and a man who never shied away from speaking his mind.

Born on June 4, 1940, in Greenville, Ohio, Max grew up in Crestline, Ohio, where he excelled in athletics and developed a love for competition. While he played nearly every sport available, football was his favorite. During his high school years, he shared the field with teammate Jack Harbaugh, whose sons, John and Jim Harbaugh, would later become well-known football coaches.

After graduating, Max proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962. Outside of military service, he shared a love of racing with his father, Ervin. Together they spent many weekends working on and racing their 1957 Chevy at local drag strips, and the occasional city street, creating memories that remained among Max's favorites throughout his life.

Committed to building a strong future, Max earned a correspondence degree through Penn State University specializing in automatic sprinkler fire-control systems. On March 13, 1971, he married the love of his life, Linda Myers. Together raising four sons: Brandon, Joe, Jason, and Brett.

As his family grew, Max made the decision to pursue a career that would allow him to be home every day and to provide stability for those he loved most. He joined the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier, dedicating many years of service before retiring.

Sports remained a constant throughout Max's life. When his oldest son turned 12, he introduced the family to dirt-track racing, beginning a tradition that would span generations. He was equally at home in the outdoors, enjoying fishing and hunting, and many were surprised to discover his talent for gardening. Max took great pride in his yard and especially enjoyed growing roses.

A devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Max admired legendary coach Woody Hayes and shared his straightforward approach to life. Max was known for telling it like it was, working hard, and never backing down from his convictions. He especially appreciated Hayes' unapologetic competitive nature and often repeated one of his favorite stories: when Hayes was asked why he went for a two-point conversion late in a blowout victory over Michigan, Hayes famously replied, "Because I couldn't go for three." Max brought that same competitive spirit, determination, and no-nonsense attitude to everything he did.

Max was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Myers; his son, Jason Myers; his father, Ervin Myers; his mother, Virginia Macci; and his stepmother, Irilla.

He is survived by his son Brandon Myers of Menomonie, Wisconsin, and his girlfriend, Lisa Ihenacho of Woodbury, Minnesota; his son Joe Myers and his wife, Kirsten, of Fall Creek, Wisconsin; and his son Brett Myers and his wife, Amber, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Rachel Myers, and his eight grandchildren, who were a source of pride: Dayne, Cole, Braden, Andrew, Alex, Madison, Maci, and Jonas.

Max will be remembered for his dedication to family, his strong work ethic, his love of sports and racing, his beautifully kept yard, and his unique sense of humor. Whether cheering on his favorite Wisconsin and Ohio teams, tending to his roses, or sharing a story with family and friends, Max left a lasting impression on everyone. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will live on for generations.

Celebration of Life Reception will be held at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway on Monday, June 29th, from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
