Harold Fredrick Frosch

Harry F. Frosch, age 90, passed away at his home on August 5, 2026, while under the care of his family and Hope Hospice.

He was born on December 11, 1935, in Blue Island, IL., to the late Harold and Florence (Marsch) Frosch. He graduated from Thornton High School in Harvey, IL. After graduation, he became an apprentice meat cutter before getting an invitation from Uncle Sam to join the Army, where he was a cook at Fort Niagara in Youngstown, N.Y. He enjoyed life in N.Y. before moving home to care for his parents in Little Black, WI. Once in Medford, he was a glass cutter at 4S Glass, a sausage maker at Tombstone Pizza, and ultimately retired as a meat cutter at the County Market grocery store.

Harry was a captivating dancer and found the love of his life, Karen Pernsteiner, at the Lamplighter Supper Club, where they had their first dance. After many years of asking for her hand in marriage, Karen finally proposed. They were married on August 10, 1973, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Holway and would have celebrated 53 years of marriage this month. Together, they raised two strong and independent daughters, Heather and Heidi, along with many beloved pets.

He dabbled in many activities, but his favorites included shooting trap, golfing, and deer hunting. Harry couldn't leave for the Chelsea Conservation Trap Club, the Goggle Eye Trap Club, or the Wisconsin Badger Games without being told to "Shoot good!" by his family, which he usually did. Golfing at the Tee-Hi golf course in Medford kept him busy after retirement, where he enjoyed playing with friends, old and new.

Many hours were spent in the woods with the Bolz family and in later years in his back 40, waiting for the perfect deer. His other memberships included Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he claimed a second-row pew, Isadore Lake Association (founding member), Town of Hammel (board member), and the American Legion in Medford. He was also a proud member of the Medford Honor Guard. His Never Forgotten Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in 2019 was a life-changing experience.

Harry is survived by his wife, Karen (Pernsteiner) Frosch; daughters, Heather of Waupaca, WI., and Heidi (Bill Harvey) of Hailey, Idaho; and many extended family members and friends.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Herman and Evelyn Persteiner; and brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Vera Frosch.

A short service and military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Medford VFW Post 5729 (240 S 8th St, Medford, WI), with Barb Krug officiating. Following the honors, a celebration of life will be held at the same location from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona is assisting the family.
