It is with unimaginable heartbreak that we share the unexpected passing of our beloved Greyson Everett Carpenter, age 15, of Altoona, Wisconsin, on August 31, 2026.

Greyson was one of those people who was difficult to fully describe with words. He was quiet and shy, but behind that quietness was an incredibly thoughtful, curious, intelligent, and wonderfully unique person.

Greyson was exceptionally intelligent and took quiet pride in his ability to excel beyond expectations. During his freshman year of high school, he earned the highest GPA in his class. But his intelligence was never what made him most special. It was the way he thought, the way he saw the world, and the unique perspective he brought to the people around him.

Greyson had an old soul. He saw the world differently and wasn't afraid to think about the things most people would rather avoid. He loved discussing the big questions-religion, politics, death, the meaning of life, and, naturally, what everyone's survival plan should be in a zombie apocalypse. His mind was always working, always wondering, always making connections. Conversations with Greyson could take you places you never expected to go.

He was sweet, kind, respectful, helpful, and gentle. He was also armed with a wonderfully sarcastic sense of humor and a quick wit that could sneak up on you. He didn't need to be the loudest person in the room to leave an impression.

Greyson loved PC gaming, D&D, rollerblading, biking, swimming, arcades, driving, and spending time with his cats. He was known for his very long, beautiful hair and his love of light blue, especially his very particular favorite shade, #00FFFF. And he had very definite opinions about the finer things in life-particularly chicken strips, cheese curds, and mac & cheese.

Greyson was preceded in death by his dad, Michael Carpenter, who passed away on April 9, 2025.

He leaves behind his mom, Ellen Carpenter; his siblings, Wesley (Kealsey), Chase, and Violet; grandparents; aunts, uncles, and cousins; and countless others who loved him.

Fifteen years was nowhere near enough time.

We got to know him, love him, laugh with him, argue with him, listen to him, watch him grow, and call him ours. But it wasn't enough for the person Greyson was, and it certainly wasn't enough for the person he still had the potential to become.

There should have been so much more-more conversations, more adventures, more sarcasm, more D&D campaigns, more drives, and more ordinary days that we never knew would one day become precious memories.

Greyson deserved more time.

More growing up.

More life.

More chances to discover who he would become.

There is no way to make sense of losing someone so young. There is no way to make fifteen years feel like enough.

It wasn't.

Greyson was here. He mattered. His life mattered. And he will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

We will carry him with us in all the places he left pieces of himself-in our memories, in our stories, in our laughter, in the things he loved, and in the people who loved him.

Fifteen years was not enough.

But it was fifteen years with Greyson.

And he will always be loved.

A gathering to remember and honor Greyson's life will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Fish House, 418 9th St W, Altoona, Wisconsin. Family, friends, and all who knew and loved Greyson are warmly invited to join us as we come together to share memories, stories, and remember the remarkable young man he was.

In honor of Greyson, we invite you to wear your favorite blue-his favorite color.
