Glen E Reit, age 91, passed away on July 20th, 2026 after a life fully lived. Born June 10th, 1935 to Harm and Lucille (Flora) Reit in Stanley, WI, Glen was one of seven children.
If Glen took an idle moment during his time on earth, it's hard to identify when it could have been. His life was defined by endless curiosity, tireless work, and an uncanny ability to bend reality to his will.
His time in the Brethren Service Commission took him to Maryland where he learned the then-new practice of testing the butterfat content in milk. Upon returning to Wisconsin, he began two lifelong commitments: founding Dairyland Laboratories Inc. in July of 1958 and marrying Jeanette Eileen Serum that September.
Glen prioritized his family above all else, but he found time for an incredible range of pursuits. He built an asphalt go-cart track in his yard, started the Hi-Eddy Apple Orchard, raised a herd of elk for many years, owned and operated an Arctic Cat dealership, became a diamond grader and broker, earned his pilot's license, and served as Field Director for Miss Wisconsin and Miss Arcadia organizations. He restored and collected Allis-Chalmers tractors, planted thousands of trees, enjoyed countless hunting trips throughout North America, and built multiple hunting camps where he created lasting memories with his family and friends. He also devoted himself to his community by serving in leadership roles with Arcadia Lions Club, Christ Lutheran Church, and the Arcadia School Board. His vision helped assemble the land that today is home to Arcadia's Memorial Park, high school, middle school, aquatic center, and athletic fields.
Known simply as "Bucka" to many of his grandchildren, the name became synonymous with adventure, ambition, and generosity. More than his accomplishments, Glen will be remembered for the example he set with a life of hard work, deep devotion, and an extraordinary ability to imagine and create a better future for his family and community.
Glen is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Jeanette, whose love and partnership were the foundation of a remarkable life; his daughters, Tami (Dave) Taysom and Lori (Mark) Amborn; seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Dan (Amie) Reit.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 23rd from 4:00-7:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Church in Arcadia, WI and for one hour prior to the 11:00 AM funeral service on Friday, July 24th, also at Christ Lutheran Church in Arcadia, WI. A private burial will be held on a future date at Oakland Cemetery in Stanley, WI.
