Gary Meier, 73, of Colfax, Wisconsin, went home to the lord on April 7, 2025. Living 2 years longer than his doctor predicted, Gary passed away at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born to parents Paul Dale and Lois Meier, on January 31, 1952, in Plum City, WI. He was raised in Oak Creek, WI but his favorite memories were of summers spent on his grandparent's farm in Spring Valley. He was a farmer at heart.
While working on his grandparent's farm he met his future wife. On August 12, 1972, Gary married Shirley, and they started their life together in Milwaukee, and eventually moved to Colfax to raise their family. He worked different jobs until settling in at Rusk Gas in Menomonie where he worked as a technician and manager. He continued his work at Wiersgalla and Dunn Energy until retirement. He spent his free time working around the house and cheering on his grandsons at sporting events. Gary volunteered his time and talents to help family, friends, and his church. If it was broken; he fixed it.
Gary is survived by wife Shirley Meier (Hoven), daughters Jeannett (Tim) Kiekhafer and Lori Meier (Greg Tuschl), son Adam (Teresa) Meier, grandsons Cole (Rachel) Kiekhafer, Braden Kiekhafer, and Ethan Meier. Brothers Bob (Martha) Meier and Frank (Kelly) Meier, sister Dianne Teske (Bob Eifert), uncle Roger Britton, brothers-in-law Wayne (Diane) Hoven and Byron (Dawn) Hoven, sister-in-law Jeannette Hoven, stepmother Delores Meier, and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Gary was a loving husband, dad, papa, and friend to everyone.
Gary was preceded in death by parents Paul Dale Meier and Lois Meier, father and mother in-law William and Maxine Hoven, and brothers-in-law David Hoven and Kenneth Hoven.
Gary was known for his punny sense of humor and loved spending time with family. At most family gatherings you could find him playing, and usually winning, a game of cards or Farkle. He was a sports fan and often attended Colfax games (especially with his grandsons), and liked watching the Brewers and the Packers play. He loved making memories with his family at the stadium.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. -12 p.m. on Saturday, April 12th at Bethany Lutheran Church in Colfax. The memorial service will immediately follow at 12 p.m. with Pastor Jordan Herrick officiating. After the service, you are invited to join us for a luncheon at The Grapevine on Main Street in Colfax to share memories.
The family sends a special thank you to Katie, Karen, and the entire Mayo Hospice team, and the Mayo Cancer Center for their loving care and support. We would also like to extend our gratitude to all the family and friends who offered support as well as the Colfax Bethany Lutheran Church and the Cremation Society of Wisconsin for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.
