Debra (Debbie) Ann Smathers passed away on Monday, June 16th, with her close family at her side.
She was born in Tampa, Florida, to Harold K. Dorgan and Floy Ann Dorgan on December 27, 1953. Much of her childhood was spent across the United States and in Germany with her family while her father was stationed at Air Force bases.
Debra met her husband, David Smathers, in DuBois, Pennsylvania, where they worked together at a furniture store. They were married on March 2, 1985.
After settling in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Debra ran a custom window drapery business from her home while raising her son, John Ross "JR" Smathers.
She found joy in tending her flower garden and baking cookies on rainy days.
Debra is survived by her husband; her son; her stepchildren, Enid Rugg and Eric Smathers, and their families; her mother; and her brother, John Dorgan.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Debra was a kind and caring soul who always placed the needs of others before her own. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her selflessness, and how she cared for the people she loved.
