Deborah Schretenthaler, 62, passed away on May 17th, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. She is known as "Mrs. S" to the hundreds of kindergarten students she taught at Flynn Elementary, "Mom" to her four wonderful children, "Grandma" to her two prized grandchildren, "Hun" to her husband and "Friend" or "Deb" to anyone else that knew her.
She loved teaching young minds, and although you could say it did define her, there is so much more to her.
Wherever there was water, Deb was always the first one jumping in to swim. Wherever there was a soft pretzel, you'd find one in Deb's hands. Whenever there was an opportunity to go to the Black Hills, she took it. She spent countless vacations there and three unforgettable summers there with her daughter. When someone suggested playing cards, she was always first to the table, shuffling the cards. There's not an episode of Little House on the Prairie that Deb hasn't seen. Deb loved a lot in her life but what she loved most was her family. She was happiest spending time with her children and grandchildren. Deb's love and devotion to her grandchildren was unwavering and unmatched. Nothing in this world made her light up like her grandkids did.
Deb was born on October 20th, 1962 in Eau Claire to Joseph and Virginia (Bask) Seymour. She met her husband Keith in chemistry class as a junior at Memorial High School. They wed on July 21st, 1984.
She is preceded in death by her parents, nephew William Mitchell, father-in-law, Leon Schretenthaler and brother-in-law Jason Richardson. She is survived by her husband Keith, children: Sam, Charlie, Sally (Ben) Dodd, Mike (Maria); siblings: Sue Mitchell (Matthew Cornetta), Mike (Mindy), Jim, Julie and Ann (Ross) Hempel; sisters-in-law Sheri (Dave) Blechinger and Lisa Richardson; brothers-in-law Scott (Desiree) and Curt (Deb); and mother-in-law Edie Schretenthaler. Her pride and joy in grandchildren Pressler Schretenthaler and Willa Dodd.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cleghorn School Park Pavilion on May 30th, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In honor of Deb, please feel free to wear your favorite pair of bibb overalls.
