David Scharlau

David W. Scharlau, age 83, of Hayward, Wisconsin passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.

David was born in Elk Mound, Wisconsin in 1942. He was the son of George and Idella Scharlau. He attended Elk Mound High School and married Mary Jo Cronkhite in 1962. He became a firefighter for the city of Eau Claire attaining the rank of captain before retiring in 1995. In 1995 he and Mary Jo purchased a retirement home in Barnes, Wisconsin where they spent many years enjoying the north woods.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, sons Gary (Teresa) Scharlau, Scott (Heather) Scharlau, daughters Marjorie Blaschko, Linda (John) Hanson and 8 grandchildren and 6 great grand-children.

A graveside service with immediate family will be planned for a later date.
