Carol Ann Hillert

Carol Ann Hillert (Kohel), 85, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on February 22, 2026, at Marshfield Medical Center in Neillsville.

Carol was born at home on January 17, 1941, in Auburndale, Wisconsin, to Hilda (Bohn) Kohel and Charles Kohel. She attended Auburndale Elementary School and graduated from Granton High School in 1959.

On November 19, 1966, Carol married David M. Hillert. Together they farmed in Granton, Wisconsin, where Carol lived her entire married life.

She was deeply rooted in her faith and her community, and was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church in Granton.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother, Hilda (Bohn, Kohel) Schmidtke; her father, Charles Kohel; her stepfather, Alton "Tony" Schmidtke; and her son, Daniel R. Johnston.

She is survived by her husband, David M. Hillert; daughter, Penny (Doug) Dunnermann; sister, Delores Dankemeyer; brother, Charles "Chuck" (Carol) Kohel; beloved grandson, Austin Dunnermann; as well as many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Zion American Lutheran Church, W2824 Hill Rd in Granton on March 9, W2824 Hill Rd, Granton. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at a later date.
