Billy Leroy Holm

Jul 14, 1929 — May 12, 2026

Billy L. Holm, 96, went to his heavenly home May 12, 2026 with family at his side. He was born 7-14-29 to Lelia and Ingman Holm. He and his five siblings were raised on a farm near Albertville, WI. He often talked of the trials his family had to endure during the "dirty thirties". He attended Chippewa and Colfax high schools and received his GED while in the US Navy in Hawaii. It was during his time in the Navy that he met the love of his life. He married Dorothy Nobriga on 3-9-50 in Waikiki, HI. Billy and Dorothy had six children: Diana, David, Vickie, Kenneth, Dennis, and Julie.

Billy served four years in the Navy Air Corps during the Korean War. He had training in Chicago, and then had advanced training in Memphis, TN and Jacksonville, FL to be an aircraft mechanic. He often said he was destined to meet Dorothy because he was headed to be stationed on the East coast after training but one of his friends who was heading to the West coast asked him to switch with him. To save money he and another friend hitchhiked seven days to San Diego and said he was lucky they made it there. He eventually was a plane captain, taxi pilot, and combat air crewman on eight different aircrafts. He was stationed on Barber's Point, Oahu, HI. Billy and Dorothy returned to WI after he completed his military service. He often worked multiple jobs to provide for his family. He worked at Armours for 32 years as a butcher.

Billy and Dorothy were members of St. Joseph's church for most of their marriage. He was a 4-H leader, softball coach, and umpire for many years. He was PTA president and church council member. He liked to fish, hunt, garden, downhill/water ski, and enjoy casino trips with Dorothy. His biggest trout from Elk Creek was 23 3⁄4 inches. His cucumbers fed many friends, families, and local food banks. They made the best "Bill's dills". Billy and Dorothy traveled frequently and camped for many years at Voyager Village. We all learned to play penny poker and he enjoyed playing with us until almost the end. His positive attitude and smile were present daily. You could often hear him singing some of his favorite songs (Tiny Bubbles, Lucky Old Sun, I Saw The Light, Amazing Grace etc.) multiple times a day. He had many stories about when he almost died, but God had other plans. He said "I believe God has been with us all these years, mostly because of Dorothy's prayers and her trust in God." He also said that Dorothy's biggest accomplishment in life was "getting Billy on the right track." It must have worked as multiple people have told us our dad "was one of the good ones."

He is survived by: Diana Brown, Vickie (Douglas) Bloom, Kenneth (Susan) Holm, Dennis (Judy) Holm, Julie (David) Wiensch. Grandchildren: Chris (Amanda) Holm, Nicole (Patrick) McElfresh, Chelsea (Mike)Topete, Amanda (Bucky) Thrash, Kari (Nik) Holtan, Joshua (Qiao) Wiensch, Eric (Ashley) Wiensch and 14 great grandchildren: Colin, Connor, Molly, Leila,

Emma, Olivia, Blaine, Tate, Asher, Beau, Shelby, Hank, Margot, and Scottie. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews.

Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Elk Mound. Military rites will be conducted by the Military Honors Veterans. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to his favorite charities: American Cancer Society, St. Judes Children Hospital, and Feed My People. The family would like to thank Dennis and Judy Holm along with St. Croix hospice for their loving care during his final years.

Billy and Dorothy's daily prayer: "Dear God our Father in heaven we thank You for the many blessings You have given us, the answers to our prayers. We thank You especially for our health, our home, the country we live in, my job, my family, my friends, Your blessings. I pray that more people will believe in You, love You, and follow Your Ten Commandments. I pray that You will give us the strength and courage to lead a good Christian life and be kind and considerate to everyone. Please God be with those of us who are sick and injured and have mercy on the souls of our departed. Be with my family, watch over them, and bless them. Help them with their efforts here on earth and to follow Your Ten Commandments, to lead lives that are pleasing to you and their family and their fellow man. I pray that we will have a safe and enjoyable day today. Thank You again for Your blessings, the answers to our prayers. Amen".
