Betty Jean Terry was born on August 14, 1930 to Charles and Jennie Terry and spent her youth in Gordon, Wisconsin. Her strong Christian faith was shaped with her parents and siblings attending the Gordon Presbyterian Church. By 1950 she was living in Superior and was soon employed as a legal secretary, a position she held for twenty years. She married Ray Johnson on June 6, 1970 and moved to Eleva, Wisconsin. She joined the Eleva Lutheran Church and loved being a part of a quilting circle which supported Lutheran World Relief. She also enjoyed baking cakes and sharing the delicious results with her neighbors.
She was an avid reader and would often be found working on word search puzzles.
Her husband, Ray, passed away in July, 2012 and she remained in their home until 2021 when she moved in with family, where she attended The River Wesleyan church, showering members with her beautiful smile.
Every morning Betty would read the Bible and pray for her family and friends. She was faithful in her prayers, maintaining a list of those in need.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jennie Terry; by her husband, Ray Johnson, and siblings Robert Terry, Forrest Terry and June (Merton) Warner. She is survived by sisters Elaine (William) Bailey and Carol (Craig) Smith and missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona is assisting the family. Online condolences may be shared at www.cremationsociety-wi.com.
