Alan Fredrick Polenz

Oct 21, 1946 — Jul 2, 2026

Alan F. "Al" Polenz, 79, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, at Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, surrounded by his loving family and close friends.

Born on October 21, 1946, Al lived a life defined by hard work, determination, and making the most of what he had. He rarely slowed down, often working two jobs to provide for his family. Frugal by nature, Al took pride in stretching every dollar. Whether he was driving around looking for the lowest gas prices, collecting returnable cans, or finding another way to save a few dollars, he truly enjoyed the hunt. His family will always remember riding along with him and the satisfaction he found in life's simple treasures.

For generation's, one of Al's favorite places was the cabin his family rented each summer. It was there he enjoyed fishing, relaxing, and making lasting memories with family.

After retiring, Al embraced a slower pace while staying active. He also discovered a love for the casino, where his luck often seemed to follow him. He and his wife, Kristine "Kris" Polenz, also enjoyed spending evenings together listening to local bands, visiting with friends, and simply enjoying each other's company. Even as his health declined and his eyesight worsened, Al remained a people person. He enjoyed sitting outside in his walker or wheelchair, visiting with neighbors, friends, and anyone who stopped to chat. He never lost his appreciation for good conversation-or for a favorite fast-food meal.

After years of dialysis and other health challenges, Al faced his final days with strength and determination. He passed peacefully with those who loved him by his side.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Orlo and Avis Polenz, and his beloved son, Kenneth "Kenny" Andersen.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kristine "Kris" Polenz; his son, Kyle (Stephanie) Polenz; his daughter, Amy (Mark) Johnson; his brother, Orin "Mouse" Polenz; and his cherished grandchildren, Serena Short, Jacob Russel, Mykal Polenz and Bralynn Andersen, the daughter of his late son Kenny. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

Al will be cremated and laid to rest beside his son, Kenny. A Celebration of Life will be held on from 1 P.M. until 4 P.M. on Saturday, August 1 at VFW Post 7232, 2900 W Folsom St, Eau Claire.

Those who knew Al will remember his unwavering work ethic, his frugal spirit, his gift for finding a bargain, his luck at the casino, and the conversations he shared with family, friends, and anyone willing to stop and visit. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
